Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a Fleet Technician to work in the Heavy Off Road Shop within the Public Works Fleet Division. You will perform advanced maintenance and repair on a range of vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks and earth moving gear, with autonomy but under clear procedures and the Shop Lead's guidance.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, automotive training, 2 years of related repair experience, VA inspector certification or ability to obtain within

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Vocational/technical automotive training preferred.
• Two years of full-time equivalent repair/maintenance experience.
• Must be certified as a Virginia Motor Vehicle Inspector or able to obtain license within 120 days.
• Must have ASE certification for the class of equipment within one year.
• Must possess Virginia CDL Class A or obtain within 180 days if assigned to Heavy Off-Road Shop.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced maintenance and repair on dump trucks, construction and earth moving equipment, trailers, street sweepers.
• Work with autonomy within established procedures, guided by the Shop Lead.
• Ensure safety and compliance with city policies during service and inspections.
