Job summary

City of Hopewell is seeking a skilled fleet mechanic to perform heavy vehicle repairs on a variety of trucks, buses, and emergency equipment under the supervision of the Fleet Manager.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain fleet vehicles, consult manuals and parts catalogs, and document service histories. A high school diploma or GED and a Virginia driver’s license are required, with CDL/S endorsements preferred and a 6-month to 1-year readiness window for certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Requires two years of experience in vehicle repair/maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license in Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance is necessary.
• Operate a City vehicle in performing job duties.
• Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer and state specs.
• Perform Virginia State inspections and diagnostics/repairs as needed.
• Enter time and maintenance data into the computer daily.
