Job summary

Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a Fleet Operator Technician in the Facilities department to maintain the college fleet, utility vehicles, and grounds equipment. You will perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, parts procurement, and support for capital equipment planning.

Requires five years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and ability to work with AI-enabled tools while upholding safety policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five years of recent full-time paid fleet vehicle and power equipment experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive and equipment repair principles.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and attachments.
  • Proficiency with All Data, digital work orders and MS Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
  • Valid Chauffeur’s Driver’s License; may operate college vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain Michigan/ASE certifications for auto and heavy truck.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy and power equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair fleet vehicles and UTVs.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues per guidelines.
  • Complete reports, work orders, and daily documentation.
  • Procure parts, coordinate purchases, and maintain inventory.
  • Operate campus heavy equipment including loaders and snowplows.
  • Assist with fleet data and capital expenditure recommendations.
  • Develop bid specifications for new fleet vehicles and power equipment.
  • Keep knowledge up-to-date on industry advancements and AI tools.
