Job summary

FedEx Freight in Chicago Heights is seeking a maintenance shop assistant to support technicians in keeping tractors, trailers and equipment safe and available. Under supervision, you will help with inspection, preventive maintenance, and proper documentation.

The role involves setting up jobs, using power and hand tools, lifting parts up to 110 pounds, and assisting with safety inspections. Starting wage is $27.63 per hour, with a range up to $32.93, and benefits listed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Basic computer skills.
• Willing to be educated on proper use of lifting devices (bottle, floor, wheel, or transmission jacks, floor cranes etc).
• Able to lift components weighing approximately 110 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles as directed.
• Ability to enter/exit driver’s compartment of truck and/or behind cab using foot/handholds.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs with other technicians.
• Set up jobs, clean, and maintain shop equipment.
• Prepare electronic and manual records and reports.
• Assist with safety inspections of equipment and document the work.
• Move parts to/from job site and install components on vehicle as directed.
• Support fleet maintenance activities.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Use power and hand tools as directed by leadership.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
