Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a part-time Fleet Services Assistant to support shop operations and vehicle handling. The role includes assisting technicians, preparing vehicles for service, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

Responsibilities cover vehicle check-in, lot organization, and basic tasks such as cleaning and light maintenance. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, pass drug and background checks, and work up to 29 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• A valid driver’s license accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid driver’s license issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
• Experience working with and around motor vehicles.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods on concrete shop floors.
• Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
• BCI background check required per County policy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Shop Cleanliness: Maintains a clean and safe shop environment by sweeping floors and clearing debris.
• Technician Support: Locates, stages, and delivers requested light-duty vehicles to technician bays.
• Assists with Vehicle Check-in and Decommissioning: Confirms VINs, handles plates, preps and cleans vehicles, scans and files documents.
• Transport and Delivery: Drives and shuttles light-duty County vehicles between facilities and shops.
• Lot Organization: Organizes standard fleet vehicles for optimal traffic flow.
• Backup Service Writer Duties: Occasional coverage at the service desk; greets customers and documents symptoms.
• Minor Mechanical Tasks: General shop tasks, replacing cleaning supplies, washing vehicles.
• Other duties as assigned.
