Salt Lake County is seeking a part-time Fleet Services Assistant to support shop operations and vehicle handling. The role includes assisting technicians, preparing vehicles for service, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Responsibilities cover vehicle check-in, lot organization, and basic tasks such as cleaning and light maintenance. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, pass drug and background checks, and work up to 29 hours weekly.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs various organizational, manual, and technical tasks associated with Fleet Services shop management and operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
A valid driver’s license accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid driver’s license issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
Experience working with and around motor vehicles.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods on concrete shop floors.
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through a BCI name check in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires extensive physical labor approximately 90% of the time, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds with some assistance; kneeling, bending, and crawling; and standing, climbing ladders, and reaching up, over, and down.
Job duties may involve exposure to grease, dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, smoke, and/or loud noises, as well as periodic exposure to extreme weather conditions.
This position requires working in multiple settings, including maintenance shops, outdoor lots in all weather conditions, and, occasionally, an indoor service office desk setting.
