Fleet Safety Manager

Buyers Barricades is a leading traffic control company. Our fleet is critical to ensuring our crews, equipment, and barricade products reach jobsites safely and on time. We are seeking a Fleet Safety Manager to build, lead, and continuously improve our fleet safety program — reducing incidents, developing our drivers, and embedding a culture of safety across every branch and operation.

The Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for leading, implementing, and continuously improving the company's fleet safety, driver training program, and vehicle operations programs across all Buyers Barricades locations. This is a hands‑on role focused on driver development, telematics‑based coaching, incident reduction, and operational safety. The Fleet Safety Manager will serve as the primary fleet safety resource for branch managers, supervisors, drivers, field employees, and company leadership.

This position drives a proactive, data‑driven approach to reducing motor vehicle incidents with a strong emphasis on driver behavior, accountability, and recognition. The Fleet Safety Manager partners with operations, safety, HR, and leadership teams to ensure safe driving practices are embedded into daily work.

Responsibilities

Fleet Safety Program Leadership

• Lead the day‑to‑day implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the company‑wide fleet safety program across all locations.
• Develop, implement, and enforce fleet safety policies, procedures, checklists, and training materials.
• Establish, communicate, and reinforce practical driver‑performance and vehicle‑safety expectations company‑wide.
• Serve as the primary fleet safety resource for branch managers, operations, drivers, and field employees.
• Identify operational risks, recurring trends, and improvement priorities; communicate recommendations to leadership and drive timely corrective action.
• Maintain regular visibility in branches, yards, warehouses, delivery operations, and jobsites at all Buyers locations (DFW, Houston, Austin, San Antonio)

Driver Training, Road Testing & Development

• Conduct initial road tests for all new‑hires to evaluate baseline driving competency and identify training needs.
• Evaluate safe vehicle operation, backing, parking, turning, defensive driving, situational awareness, pre‑trip/post‑trip inspections, load securement, and company driving expectations.
• Document road‑test observations and communicate driver‑readiness status, identified risks, and required development plans to operational leadership.
• Coordinate and deliver driver training including ride‑along, vehicle inspections, defensive driving, load securement, and fleet procedures.
• Conduct follow‑up road evaluations to assess progress, competency, and readiness for independent operation.
• Provide ongoing driver coaching, refresher training, ride‑alongs, and remedial training based on observed performance, incidents, safety trends, telematics data, or operational needs.
• Conduct post‑incident and post‑accident driver evaluations, coaching, and retraining as appropriate.

Telematics / GPS Dash‑Cam Monitoring & Driver Coaching

• Serve as the company's primary administrator and operational resource for the telematics/GPS dash‑cam platform (Samsara).
• Review driver safety events, trends, scores, vehicle data, inspection submissions, and applicable dash‑camera footage.
• Leverage telematics data to identify and recognize positive driving performance, address recurring concerns, and prioritize coaching or remedial training.
• Develop and manage consistent processes for event review, driver coaching, documentation, escalation, and follow‑up.
• Develop and maintain a driver score program with clear accountability tiers and recognition programs for safe driving performance.
• Utilize data visualization tools to create informative safety dashboards and reports for leadership and stakeholders.
• Support employees and managers with telematics applications, inspection workflows, and required company processes.
• Lead the response, documentation, investigation, and follow‑up for all vehicle accidents, workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other safety events.
• Work with existing safety team to gather relevant information including employee/witness statements, photographs, site details, vehicle information, inspection records, and telematics data.
• Identify contributing factors, immediate corrective actions, training needs, and long‑term preventive measures.
• Coordinate post‑incident safety communications, driver coaching, road evaluations, retraining, and follow‑up inspections.
• Maintain incident records, track corrective‑action completion, analyze trends, and report recurring concerns to leadership.

Qualifications
