Job summary

freshexpress in Columbia, SC seeks a Transportation Safety/Fleet Manager to supervise the safety and maintenance program ensuring DOT/FMCSA compliance and ongoing driver training. You will manage training, audits, and inspection files and lead a team responsible for equipment maintenance and safety standards.

The role requires coordinating onboarding, safety audits, and regulatory compliance across drivers and vehicles, with a focus on OSHA, DOT, and FMCSR guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience managing fleet DOT compliance.
• Knowledge of FMCSA regulations.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and/or oversee yearly safety training for all CDL drivers.
• Coordinate all CDL drivers onboarding assuring compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations.
• Oversee truck/trailer maintenance, to include onsite maintenance team and offsite repairs.
• Monitor the vehicle maintenance program to ensure compliance with the FMCSR and applicable laws.
• Conduct accident/incident investigation, determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Work alongside the Transportation Manager to conduct driver training and enforce regulations and company standards.
• Monitor inventory of oils, lubricants, and Diesel Exhaust Fuel (DEF).
• Maintain proper truck/trailer tire program.
• Conduct recurring audits to ensure equipment stays in safe, working condition.
• Ensure maintenance shop is a safe and clean work environment.
• Order maintenance parts, equipment and lubricants as needed.
• Perform DOT Driver/Equipment Safety Audits.
• Interpret, train, and enforce company policies including DOT, recordkeeping, OSHA, food safety, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned
