Job summary

First Student is seeking a Field Supervisor to monitor driver performance, support safe and reliable service, and assist with compliance reporting. This role works closely with drivers, school districts, and customers to reinforce safety expectations and ensure routes operate efficiently.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and 1-2 years of supervisory experience with hourly staff, plus strong communication skills and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of supervisory experience with hourly employees preferred.
• Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance preferred.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with drivers, employees, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the general public.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English.
• Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, as needed.
• Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality required.
• Must have a working vehicle or reliable transportation to travel within the service area as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor driver pre-trip and post-trip inspections and address equipment concerns.
• Perform driver road checks and assess route performance.
• Observe drivers for work readiness and uniform compliance.
• Conduct IPP Safety contacts with drivers and correct safety violations.
• Investigate incidents and accidents with factual reports.
• Attend client conferences and bus coordinator meetings.
• Support calm, factual discussions with customers and drivers.
• Complete compliance tasks including records and safety data entry.
• Supervise daily loading and unloading at schools.
• Coordinate transportation for special events.
• Monitor on-time performance and follow up on issues.
• Dispatch as needed to support daily operations.
• Assist management with driver interviews.
