Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in West Des Moines, IA is seeking a Manager Trainee to learn the management of a small driver count, including nights and weekends, and ensure safe, timely freight movement with strong customer service.

The role provides DOT compliance training and progression opportunities within the logistics organization. As a trainee, you will develop skills in carrier setup, fleet optimization, and reporting while supporting payroll, budgets, and driver performance initiatives,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field OR High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience
• Willingness to travel to account locations when applicable
• Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends
• Willingness to regionally relocate dependent on account assignment
• Experience managing a team
• Ability to analyze situations and make productive decisions
• Ability to adapt to changing environments
• Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers
• Ability to meet or exceed team/driver needs and provide excellent service

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and safe outside carriers to set up new carriers and maximize productivity
• Fill in for absent personnel and on projects related to optimizing fleet operations and profitability
• Train drivers and staff on internal and third-party systems
• Develop reporting and financial analysis for customer locations and monitor KPIs
• Manage fleet yard operations, maintenance scheduling, and safety compliance
• Plan loads, routes, and freight movement to meet customer requirements
