Job summary

Solon City Schools is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on the district’s school buses and automotive fleet. The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and safe operation of all district vehicles.

Experience with diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and brakes is required. CDL-B with Passenger Endorsement is necessary, with ASE certification targeted within six months of hire. 260 workdays per year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement.
• ASE Diesel Certification within 6 months of hire.
• BUSTR Class C Operator Certification required.
• Experience with gasoline, diesel and heavy vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair district automotive and school bus equipment.
• Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
• Schedule and perform preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Prepare buses for State Highway Patrol inspection.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs.
• Ensure safety and cleanliness of work areas.
• Assist in bid specifications for bus parts and services.
