Job summary

The City of Brandon seeks an experienced Shop Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on Public Works vehicles and equipment. You will help with parts inventory, shop organization, and general upkeep to keep the fleet safe and ready for service.

Responsibilities include diagnosing diesel and gasoline systems, maintaining records, and coordinating external repairs as needed, while ensuring a clean, safe work environment and proper material disposal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL or ASE certification preferred or ability to obtain.
• Experience with diesel, fleet or heavy-equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems.
• Track service intervals, parts used, and repair history; coordinate vendor repairs when needed.
• Maintain inventory of parts, fluids, and shop supplies; keep work areas clean and safe.
• Assist with shop organization, equipment yard, and testing of repaired equipment.
