Job summary

The City Public Works department seeks a Shop Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment. You will help with parts inventory, records, shop organization, and general upkeep.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing diesel/gasoline engines and hydraulic systems, noting service histories, and coordinating vendor repairs when needed. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three or more years in diesel, fleet, construction or heavy-equipment maintenance/repair.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain required licenses.
• Ability to read manuals, service diagrams, and maintenance schedules.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking systems.
• Identify problems, recommend repairs, and coordinate with vendors when needed.
• Track service history, mileage, hours, and parts usage.
• Maintain organized shop, inventory, and safe work practices.
