Job summary

Park County is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform maintenance and diagnostic work on a range of county vehicles and equipment. The role requires hands-on expertise, strong diagnostic abilities, and adherence to Public Works/DOT standards.

The position involves preventative maintenance, on-site and field work, and occasional overtime for emergencies, with a focus on safety and quality workmanship. A Class B CDL is required, with Class A preferred for higher pay brackets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Vocational/mechanics training preferred, or two years’ experience in automotive/truck/heavy equipment.
  • Ten years’ experience in automotive/heavy equipment desired or equivalent mix of education/experience.
  • Minimum Class B CDL; Class A CDL may be needed for higher pay bracket.
  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly skilled mechanical repair and diagnostic work on Park County vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, and filter replacements.
  • Inspect and repair vehicles to meet Public Works and DOT standards.
  • Document job time, hours, miles, parts used and repairs; communicate with appropriate personnel.
  • Provide field service in emergencies and operate various vehicles to troubleshoot and verify repairs.
  • Repair or replace components of complex equipment and fabricate parts/tools as needed.
  • Operate safely in shop and field environments and comply with PPE requirements.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Vocational/mechanics training or two years’ experience in automotive/heavy equipment
Ten years’ experience in automotive/heavy equipment
Class B CDL (Class A CDL preferred for higher pay)
Background check required
