Job summary

Valley County is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join the Road & Bridge Department. You will perform journey-level preventive maintenance and repairs on a diverse county fleet, from light vehicles to heavy diesel machinery.

The role operates in a well-equipped shop and involves using diagnostic tools and welding equipment, with some field work under various mountain conditions. Requires 2+ years of experience on mixed fleets and a valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain).

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of professional mechanical experience on mixed fleets (light and heavy diesel equipment).
• Possess a valid Class A CDL or be able to obtain within hire timeframe.
• Foundational knowledge of engines, hydraulics, air brakes, and basic welding/fabrication; familiarity with modern diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gasoline and heavy diesel fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose, repair, and test complex mechanical systems on heavy equipment (motor graders, loaders, dump trucks).
• Document parts and labor; maintain a clean, safe workspace; assist in field repairs as needed.
