Job summary

The Town of Avon is looking for a Fleet Mechanic II to maintain and repair a broad range of vehicles and equipment, including emergency, transit, and service fleet assets. The role emphasizes electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, with a focus on efficiency and safety.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years’ heavy diesel experience, ASE and DOT certifications, and a solid set of hand tools. Pre-employment testing and a robust benefits package are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 5+ years as an equipment/vehicle mechanic with heavy diesel experience.
• ASE certifications (4) or ASE Master Certification in Light/Heavy Duty vehicles; DOT certification.
• Must have adequate hand tools in a roll-around toolbox.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate vehicle and equipment safety and communicate findings to fleet manager or customer.
• Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment including emergency, transit, and service vehicles.
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical system failures and repair malfunctions.
• Manage fleet parts inventory and schedule repairs with departments and third parties.
• Respond to road calls and perform field repairs as needed.
