Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered equipment in our Georgia-based operations.

Under supervision, you will develop core skills in fleet maintenance, document work, and support higher mechanics while adhering to safety rules and company policies.

This full-time on-site role offers hands-on training, equipment familiarity, and potential for certification as you grow with the team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• 1+ year experience in vehicle maintenance or related technical field.
• Personal basic tool set required (location dependent).
• Basic understanding of diesel and gasoline engine operation and components.
• Experience with hand tools, power tools and shop equipment.
• Experience with basic computer tasks and fleet software.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and repair on fleet vehicles and plant equipment.
• Reviews vehicle inspection reports and repair inspections as directed.
• Performs routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
• Inspects and replaces belts, hoses, batteries, and lights.
• Assists in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic tools.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
• Documents work performed and parts used through logs or fleet management systems.
