Job summary

Darling Ingredients Inc. is seeking a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance and repairs on trailers, diesel and gasoline powered vehicles, and plant equipment. Under supervision, you will develop core skills in fleet maintenance.

You will follow safety rules, document work in logs, and support senior mechanics. Willingness to travel for training and certification is required. This is a full-time, on-site role with benefits such as 401(k) and health coverage.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is preferred.
Valid driver's license is required.
1+ year of experience in vehicle maintenance or related field.
Tools provided a basic personal tool set (location dependent).
Basic understanding of diesel and gasoline engines.
Experience with hand and power tools and shop equipment.
Familiarity with fleet software and basic computer tasks.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on fleet vehicles and plant equipment.
Review inspection reports and assist with diagnoses under supervision.
Replace belts, hoses, batteries, and lights as needed.
Document work and parts used in logs or fleet systems.
Assist Mechanic 2/3 and Fleet Manager with more complex tasks.
Respond to roadside service calls when required.
Maintain shop cleanliness and safety compliance.
Travel for ongoing training and certification as needed.
