Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and plant equipment. This role develops core competencies under supervision of Mechanic 2/3 and Fleet Managers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and 1+ year experience in vehicle maintenance, with a personal basic tool set. Travel may be required; safety is emphasized.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on fleet vehicles and plant equipment.
• Inspect and replace belts, hoses, batteries, and lights as needed.
• Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic tools.
• Document work performed and parts used in logs or fleet systems.
• Support senior mechanics with more complex repairs under supervision.
• Respond to roadside service calls when required.
• Adhere to safety rules and participate in ongoing training.
