Job summary

Darling Ingredients Inc. is seeking a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on trailers and fleet equipment. You will work under supervision to develop core skills in vehicle maintenance while supporting more senior mechanics.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and at least 1 year of experience with diesel/gas engines. Occasional travel and safety training are part of the job.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have a valid Driver's license.
• At least 1 year of vehicle maintenance or related technical experience.
• Must supply a personal basic tool set (location dependent).
• Basic understanding of diesel and gasoline engines.
• Experience with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Experience with basic computer tasks and fleet software.
• Detail oriented and highly organized.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and repair on fleet vehicles and plant equipment.
• Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports and repair inspections.
• Performs routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
• Inspects and replaces belts, hoses, batteries, and lights.
• Assists in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic tools.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
• Documents work performed and parts used through logs or fleet management systems.
• Supports senior mechanics with more complex repairs and diagnostics.
• Responds to roadside service calls when required.
• Follows safety rules and attends safety meetings.
• Travel for training as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
