Job summary

Francis Parker School in San Diego seeks a Mechanic/Fleet Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain the school’s fleet of buses, vans, and support vehicles. You will also manage EV charging infrastructure as the fleet shifts to electric power over the next 5–10 years.

The role requires 5+ years of diesel/heavy-duty experience, ASE certifications and California CDL with P and S endorsements are desirable.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; technical schooling or diesel apprenticeship preferred.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining heavy-duty diesel engines and/or buses.
• ASE Certifications (Medium/Heavy Truck or School Bus) and EPA 609 desirable; California CDL Class B with P and S endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in school vehicles.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, oil changes, fluid checks, and safety audits.
• Ensure buses pass state safety inspections and address any defects affecting safety.
• Respond to roadside calls and perform emergency repairs or towing arrangements.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, maintenance schedules, and inspections.
• Maintain a clean and safe shop, follow OSHA standards and proper disposal procedures.
