Job summary

Alachua County is seeking a Fleet Technician in the Department of Public Works, Office of Fleet Management. The role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a broad range of fleet vehicles with minimal supervision, including diesel equipment.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, 2 years of automotive mechanics experience (1 year diesel), and MACS certification within 3 months. A Florida CDL with X endorsement is required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent.
• Two years' experience in automotive mechanics, with at least one year in diesel mechanics.
• Trainee status may be considered for applicants within six months of meeting education/experience.
• Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's license by date of employment and obtain a Florida Class A CDL with an X endorsement within six months.
• MACS certification on air conditioning repair and recycling within three months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, overhaul and maintain a wide variety of fleet vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment.
• Perform field service work using field service trucks and equipment.
• Operate shop equipment such as brake lathes, lathes, welders and diagnostic equipment.
• Prepare records and reports on work performed.
