Job summary

The City of Renton seeks a dependable Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic 1 or 2 to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of more than 700 vehicles and equipment, including heavy machinery and city vehicles. The role supports safety and quality work, with a Monday–Friday schedule 6:30 am–2:30 pm, placement at level based on qualifications.

Candidates should have 2 years of vocational automotive training or equivalent experience, a valid driver’s license, and pass background and driving record checks.

Qualifications

• 2 years vocational automotive training or 2 years’ experience in maintaining, repairing, and overhaul of heavy/light gasoline, diesel, and battery-powered equipment and electrical systems.
• Valid Driver’s license required.
• Successful driving record check required.
• Successful background check and fingerprinting required.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs, maintenance, inspections on a variety of City vehicles and equipment.
• Operate and service fuel pumps; handle fuel and oil levels; ensure safety compliance.
• Inspect brakes, tires, engines, and electrical systems and perform preventive maintenance.
• Maintain records of fuel usage, parts, and time worked.
