Job summary

Pickens County is seeking a maintenance mechanic to perform skilled repair and preventive maintenance on county-owned vehicles and heavy equipment. The role includes diagnosing engines, electrical, brake and HVAC systems, repairing emergency and law enforcement vehicles, and ensuring safety through road tests after service.

The technician will stock parts, record work completed, and attend training to stay current.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
• Valid state driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and performs mechanical repair work on diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment, including engines, fuel systems, electrical and brake systems.
• Repairs emergency services and law enforcement vehicles and installs or maintains specialized equipment as needed.
• Performs preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, hoses/belts, brakes, lights and engine tuning.
• Changes and repairs tires on vehicles.
• Conducts road tests after repairs to ensure safety and proper function.
• Picks up parts from vendors and maintains inventory; maintains repair records and shop cleanliness.
