Job summary

Charleston County is seeking an Automotive Shop Technician to maintain and repair the County’s light duty assets, including cars, trucks, and medium duty diesels. The role covers comprehensive diagnostics and electrical work with a focus on reliability and safety.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, with ASE certification within six months and EPA 609 certification. A valid SC driver’s license is required, and the County offers an annual tool allowance and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with in-depth repair experience.
• Must obtain ASE within six months of hire and EPA 609 certification if not already held.
• Ability to diagnose with multiple diagnostic tools and read wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Performs repair and maintenance on County vehicles, diagnosing electrical/electronic components.
• Inspects, tests, and prioritizes repairs to minimize disruption to County work.
• Maintains records on maintenance activities.
• Provides on-call after-hours support for EMS ambulances.
• Keeps supervisor informed of work progress.
