Job summary

Bellflower Unified School District is seeking a Journey-Level Automotive Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain a variety of gas and diesel-powered district vehicles, including school buses. You will read schematics, interpret repair manuals and maintain accurate service histories.

The role requires two years of journey-level experience, a high school diploma, and a California driver’s license with clean driving record.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and two years journey-level experience in repair of light and heavy gasoline and diesel automotive equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level mechanical work in inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of buses, automobiles, trucks, tractors and other District vehicles; maintain related records.
• Perform required inspections of school buses; perform routine maintenance safety checks and inspections; maintain accurate service and repair history records.
• Evaluate maintenance and repair needs; read schematics and diagrams; inspect and diagnose mechanical malfunctions; prepare work list of needs.
• Adjust and reline brakes; maintain and replace air and hydraulic brake system components; install axles; overhaul steering gears and drive shafts; change and balance tires.
• Diagnose and repair engine electrical and ignition systems, such as distributors, coils, alternators, starters, and related systems.
• Repair and adjust transmissions, drive shafts, differentials, universal joints, gears, valves, transfer cases, and rear ends; tune engines and carburetors.
• Operate specialized electronic diagnosis equipment and machinery; use computer to order parts, maintain inventory and update fuel usage and mileage records.
• Maintain shop area, equipment and materials in a safe, clean and orderly fashion.
• Operate a school bus over designated routes; respond to emergency field calls as needed.
• Perform electrical and acetylene welding, brazing and soldering as assigned.
