Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic to maintain Agency fleet and equipment, drive a school bus as needed, and complete required documentation. Performs major component repairs to OEM specs and ensures fleet remains in optimal operating condition.

Candidate must have automotive repair experience, possess or obtain SC CDL, School Bus Certificate, and DOT Card within 120 days, and be able to interpret service manuals and work with diesel and gasoline engines.

Qualifications

  • Three years of mechanical experience in automotive related repair.
  • Must have or acquire SC CDL, School Bus Certificate and DOT Card within 120 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of repair of gasoline and diesel engines; interpret service manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs/replaces major component parts to restore OEM specs.
  • Maintains fleet in excellent operating condition.
  • Evaluates and diagnoses mechanical/electrical problems.
  • Notifies supervisor of major issues outside scope.
  • Supports compliance with Federal, State, Agency and Department policies.
  • Performs annual bus inspections per SDE requirements and maintains documentation.
  • Responds to on-call situations with safety as the priority.
