Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles. You will diagnose issues, perform engine and transmission repairs, and keep detailed records using fleet management software.

The role operates Monday-Thursday, 6:00 am–4:30 pm on site at the Golden fleet shop. Salary ranges $30.00–$35.00 per hour with standard benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: One year work related experience.
• Certifications: CDL may be required within one year of employment.
• Education/experience: An equivalent combination is acceptable.
• Preferred qualifications: ASE certification, CDL, Tow Truck experience.

Description

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, performance, and lifecycle management of a diverse fleet of gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles. They coordinate and prioritize service and repair activities, with a strong focus on efficiency, preventive maintenance, safety, and operational readiness. They diagnose electrical, suspension, HVAC, drivetrain, and other automotive system issues accurately and perform engine and transmission repairs as required. They maintain detailed service records, compliance documentation, and asset tracking using fleet management software. They collaborate with technicians, vendors, and internal departments to support operational needs, maximize fleet availability, and ensure all vehicles remain reliable and cost-effective throughout their service life.

Schedule

This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday; 6:00 am – 4:30 pm). This position is on site at the fleet shop in Golden.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $30.00 to $35.00 USD hourly. Hourly Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties

• Maintaining and repairing vehicles, which may include performing major engine adjustments and rebuilds, rebuilding or replacing vehicle parts, performing mechanical repairs on drive train, brake, steering and other functional parts, replacing vehicle operating systems, tuning engines, performing welding or machine work, working with customers to ensuring repairs, maintaining records of vehicle service and repair work by inspecting mechanical equipment and parts, keeping inventory of parts, maintaining replacement parts and ordering new ones, monitoring when preventive maintenance is necessary.

• Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience: One year work related experience.

• ASE auto mechanic certification.
• CDL.
• Tow Truck experience.
