Colonial Transportation Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic in Savannah, GA. The role maintains a diverse fleet of Class 5-8 vehicles, performs diagnostics, and ensures DOT/compliance during repairs. You will work in a shop and may respond to road calls.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, experience with diesel systems, and a valid CDL; ASE certifications and endorsements are highly valued.

Qualifications

• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications preferred.
• CDL Class A or B license required or with hazmat/tanker endorsements.
• Experience with diesel engines, air brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read manuals/diagrams and use diagnostic software.
• Welding and fabrication experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on Class 5-8 trucks and trailers.
• Conduct DOT inspections and maintenance documentation.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic issues.
• Service engines, trans, suspensions, brakes, HVAC, and fuel systems.
• Repair tanker equipment and perform trailer maintenance.
• Respond to road calls and maintain records of work.

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of Class 5-8 commercial vehicles, including fuel trucks, chemical tankers, petroleum tankers, dry vans, and related equipment. This position ensures all fleet assets operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company standards.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance services on Class 5-8 trucks, tractors, trailers, tankers, and support equipment.
• Conduct DOT inspections and complete required maintenance documentation.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
• Service diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, steering components, braking systems, and HVAC systems.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair fuel and chemical tanker equipment, including pumps, valves, vapor recovery systems, product hoses, emergency shutoff systems, and tank components.
• Perform trailer maintenance and repairs on dry vans, tank trailers, and specialized transportation equipment.
• Execute tire repairs and replacements, wheel-end inspections, and alignment-related repairs.
• Troubleshoot and repair lighting, wiring, charging systems, and electronic control systems.
• Utilize computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance software to identify equipment deficiencies.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance activities, and parts usage.
• Respond to road calls and emergency breakdowns as required.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and environmental regulations during all maintenance activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Assist with inventory management and recommend repair priorities to minimize fleet downtime.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience maintaining Class 5-8 commercial trucks and trailers.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, technical diagrams, and repair procedures.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and shop equipment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications.
• CDL Class A or B.
• Tanker and HazMat endorsements.
• Experience maintaining petroleum or chemical transportation equipment.
• Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack, International, or Freightliner vehicles.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
