Job summary

QTC Inc. seeks an experienced Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair company trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. You will diagnose issues, perform repairs and preventive maintenance, and help ensure safety and regulatory compliance for the fleet.

The ideal candidate has strong diesel/heavy-vehicle experience, understands DOT inspections, and can coordinate with vendors. This role requires reliable hands-on work and clear communication with drivers and management.

Qualifications

• Experience as a fleet/diesel/heavy-vehicle mechanic.
• Experience maintaining trucks and trailers.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of DOT inspection, maintenance, and safety requirements.
• Ability to perform hands-on work with limited supervision.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company trucks, trailers, and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, brake, suspension, battery, lighting, and trailer-related issues.
• Determine whether repairs should be completed internally or through an outside vendor.
• Review reported vehicle defects and determine whether vehicles and equipment are safe to remain in service.
• Identify and correct mechanical or safety conditions that could result in a vehicle being placed out of service.
• Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate required services and inspections.
• Assist with DOT annual inspections, roadside inspection findings, and vehicle-related violations.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, inspection, and service records.
• Review Samsara information related to vehicle faults, inspections, maintenance needs, and driver-reported defects.
• Communicate with dealerships, repair facilities, towing companies, parts suppliers, and other fleet vendors.
• Respond to breakdowns and urgent vehicle or equipment issues as needed.
• Assist with new vehicle and equipment setup, inspections, registrations, accessories, decals, and preparation for field use.
• Maintain commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and fleet maintenance supplies.
• Keep the fleet and shop work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Communicate vehicle status and repair needs clearly with drivers, field employees, and management.

QTC Inc. is looking for an experienced, hands-on Fleet Mechanic to help maintain and repair our company trucks, trailers, and construction equipment.

The Fleet Mechanic will diagnose problems, perform repairs and preventative maintenance, inspect equipment, and help ensure our fleet remains safe, compliant, and ready for the field.

The ideal candidate has experience working with commercial trucks and trailers and understands DOT vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements.

Broader experience with FMCSA regulations, Samsara, Hours of Service, ELDs, and commercial driver requirements is preferred but does not need to be the candidate’s primary area of expertise.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a fleet, diesel, automotive, heavy-equipment, or commercial-vehicle mechanic.
• Experience maintaining and repairing trucks and trailers.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Working knowledge of DOT vehicle inspection, maintenance, and safety requirements.
• Ability to identify conditions that could place a commercial vehicle out of service.
• Ability to perform hands‑on mechanical work with limited supervision.
• Ability to read inspection reports, repair estimates, service records, and diagnostic information.
• Strong organization, communication, and follow‑through.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Experience with the following is preferred but not required in every area:

• DOT- or FMCSA-regulated fleets
• Samsara or another fleet‑management system
• Hours of Service and ELD requirements
• Commercial vehicle classifications, GVWR, GCWR, and trailer requirements
• Driver qualification and commercial vehicle documentation
• Load securement requirements

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, crawl, climb, and work underneath vehicles and trailers.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, jacks, lifts, and other shop equipment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand and perform mechanical work for extended periods.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment as required.
