Job summary

Transco Lines Inc (TLI Trucking) is seeking a Driver Manager to supervise a team of drivers and act as the primary communications link within Operations. You will monitor performance and work to maximize driver and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate data entry, coordinating maintenance, planning workload with Load Planners, and escalating driver concerns to HR. Strong Excel skills and experience with fleets are valued.

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in related field.
  • 3-year experience in transportation.
  • Demonstrates decision-making ability with little supervision.
  • Intermediate user ability for Microsoft Excel.

  • Sole communications link to driver, including load information, advances, PO's, maintenance coordination and general news.
  • Responsible for assigned full board of tractors and drivers, including management for optimum performance.
  • Ensure data entry is correct; minimize errors on service failures.
  • Fleet managers aim for 97% data entry accuracy.
  • Monitor driver turnover to keep within the ideal range.
  • Communicate to drivers the customers' expectations to ensure on-time service.
  • Maintain safety metrics: Hours of service, CSA scores, and bonus potential.
  • Ensure drivers are current on preventative maintenance and relay road conditions from Safety.
  • Escalate driver complaints to the appropriate dept in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with Load Planners to plan future workload and with Service/Breakdown to maintain equipment.

Summary

Serve as driver's supervisor/representative in Operations. Manage drivers performance in identified categories and be primary communication link to drivers. Work to achieve optimum driver and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Sole communications link to driver, including, but not limited to, load information, advances, purchase orders, maintenance coordination, performance counseling and dissemination of general company news and information.
  • Responsible for assigned full board of tractors and drivers, including, but not limited to effective management for optimum performance in the following categories:
  • Ensuring data entry is correct always. Coding errors on service failures need to be minimal.
  • Fleet Managers will be responsible for 97% data entry accuracy.
  • Responsible to ensure your driver turnover stays in the ideal range. The ideal range will vary month by month, but preventable turnover should never exceed 115%.
  • Utilization, mileage may vary as well, depending on the month. Utilization overall should be
  • 310-326 MPU. In case of dedicated freight your MPU goal may be adjusted to fit the expectation of that specific business unit.
  • On-time Service- Service failures should be minimal. It is your responsibility to communicate to the driver the customers expectations.
  • Overall safety- Hours of service, unsafe driving and overall CSA scores will affect your bonus potential.
  • Make sure drivers are current on preventative maintenance on their trucks.
  • Update drivers on road conditions and restrictions as communicated by the Safety Department.
  • Communicate to HR in a timely manner on Drivers Medical Conditions or attendance issues.
  • Handling driver complaints and ensuring complaints are escalated to the appropriate person or department and handled in a timely manner.
  • Work with Load Planners and other Fleet Managers to plan future workload.
  • Work with Service and Breakdown departments to adequately maintain equipment and meet service schedules.
  • Must be able to think strategically and plan ahead of rapidly changing situations while maintaining a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Must be well organized and engaged with the team-members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with co-workers and supervisor, exercising the speed of trust when issues arise.
Qualifications

Preferred Qualification:

  • 2-year degree in related field
  • 3-year experience in transportation
  • Demonstrates decision-making ability with little supervision
  • Intermediate user ability for Microsoft Excel
Education and/or Experience
  • Associate Degree or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Computer Skills
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of TMW Database software,
  • Microsoft Excel and Outlook knowledge.
