The Fleet Maintenance Technician performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office vehicles and equipment. This includes patrol cars, specialty units, transport vans, and administrative vehicles. The technician ensures that all fleet assets are safe, reliable, and mission ready, supporting the operational needs of law enforcement personnel.
- Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on law enforcement vehicles.
- Performs routine maintenance including oil changes, brake service, tire replacement, and fluid checks.
- Installs and maintains emergency equipment such as lights, sirens, radios, and cages.
- Makes minor or major repairs to vehicles or equipment including disassembling, replacing, and/or overhauling mechanical systems.
- Orders parts for vehicle repairs as needed.
- Maintains a relationship with vendors and contacts them for further assistance or questions regarding specific vehicle equipment or repairs.
- Operates various types of vehicles as required to complete proper maintenance.
- Maintains preventative maintenance program.
- Maintains accurate service records and updates on fleet management software.
- Conducts inspections and road tests to ensure vehicle safety and performance.
- Assists with vehicle upfitting for new vehicle builds and the decommissioning of vehicles that have reached end-of-life service.
- Transport vehicles to local vendors for repairs, equipment installs, or decal graphic applications.
- Follows agency protocols for hazardous material handling and shop safety.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the service bay.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- All CCSO employees are considered 'essential emergency workers' and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations, including but not limited to, in-County and out-of-County deployments.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Solid understanding of vehicle lubrication systems and maintenance procedures.
- Basic knowledge of automotive systems and components.
- Working knowledge of parts requirements including ordering and recording.
- Skilled in locating and correcting defects in mechanical equipment.
- Skilled in the use of shop tools.
- Ability to read technical manuals and specifications.
- Ability to prepare, maintain, and track maintenance records.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.

- High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in automotive or fleet maintenance.
- Vocational or technical training is preferred.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Work is primarily completed in an automotive shop with the potential to occasionally work outdoors to complete special projects.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Valid Florida driver's license required.
- If a current CCSO employee, then no disciplinary actions within the last 12 months and completion of current position time commitment requirement.
