Job summary

Marion County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Vehicle Equipment Installer to install, service and repair law enforcement vehicle systems, including radios, lights, cameras and data terminals. The role requires EVT certification, two years of install/repair experience, and FCC licenses within probation.

Candidates must have a valid Florida driver’s license, fabrication ability, and be able to read schematics and diagrams.

  • Must obtain FCC Part 1 and 3 licenses during probation.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Install radios, lights, camera systems, and related accessories in sheriff vehicles.
  • Coordinate with IT for programming of devices and data terminals.
  • Maintain shop inventory and assist in ordering decisions.
  • Ensure equipment is inspected, documented and safe for operation.
  • Attend training to maintain current certifications and stay updated on new tech.

Job description

This is skilled work involving the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and accessories in law enforcement vehicles including but not limited to emergency lights, radios, mobile data terminals, camera systems, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth communications, transport cages, wiring, triggers, and power supplies. A. Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics." B. Install agency equipment including radios, light bars, camera systems, special lighting and equipment triggers and related accessories and wiring. C. Coordinate with the I.T. department for required programming of technology items to include mobile data terminals, cameras, cradle points, etc. D. Ensure the patrol deputy is knowledgeable in the operation of any new system installed by a Vehicle Equipment Installer. E. Diagnose, locate, and repair defects in installed agency equipment or arrange for replacement as needed. F. Coordinate the return or other warranty service of any faulty equipment. G. Upfit vehicles with law enforcement equipment as required for agency use. H. Assist other Fleet personnel as necessary. I. Monitor and track radio shop inventory to assist in equipment ordering decisions. J. Clean own work area and assist in total shop cleanliness. K. Attend schools or seminars as required to maintain certification and keep abreast of current technology. L. Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operation of the Fleet/Radio shop and make recommendations for solutions. M. Ensure all equipment disposals are properly completed and documented. N. Perform other duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the Sheriff.

JOB PREREQUISITES
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • EVT Emergency Technician Certification.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of vehicle electronics. Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, and testing electronic devices.
  • Must possess fabricating ability.
  • You will be required to obtain your FCC 1 and 3 license within the probation period.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity and electronics.
  • Physical agility to lift medium to heavy objects, and to stoop, bend, climb, and reach during work on electronic equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding the English language.
  • Ability to interpret the work from technical sketches, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Must be able to follow instructions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Maintain EVT Law Enforcement Technician Certification.
  • Maintain FCC license Element 1 and 3.
  • Maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Both indoor and open shop environments. Exposure to possible electrical hazards. Requires stooping, bending, and stretching when installing equipment in vehicles. Routine lifting of objects up to fifty (50) pounds. Normal daytime hours, but subject to being called out, and may be required to work overtime when necessary.

Work environment requires frequent walking, standing, some lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds and/or the operation of vehicles, office, shop keyboard or hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand eye coordination are important for safe and/or productive operations.

Environmental hazards:

The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, and toxic and/or poisonous agents.

Sensory requirements:

The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception and texture perception.
