Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in Long Beach, CA to oversee a technician team responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and trucks. The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient shop operations both on-site and in the field.

Responsibilities include directing technicians, scheduling repairs, coaching staff, conducting safety inspections, and managing inventory and budgets.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ASE Certification required or preferred.
• Experience supervising lead technicians or equivalent.
• DOT, OSHA and federal/state regulation knowledge appears as a minimum requirement.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to lead technicians to ensure safe, efficient repairs and maintenance.
• Monitor operational performance and redirect activities as needed.
• Report performance to management and suggest process improvements.
• Supervise shop personnel including training, evaluations, and staffing decisions.
• Inspect outside repairs for safety/compliance and proper completion.
• Identify training opportunities and document corrective actions.
• Conduct Quality Control inspections and track resolutions.
• Oversee diagnostic work and road tests for complex repairs.
• Manage shop inventory and budget within approval levels.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC and welding for heavy equipment.
