Job summary

Regional Transportation District (RTD) seeks a Manager of Rolling Stock Maintenance to lead RTD’s bus fleet operations, including diesel, gas, hybrid, and battery-electric/zero-emission vehicles. You will guide maintenance teams, ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance, and drive cost-efficient, high-availability service.

The role also encompasses budgeting and staffing, overtime planning, contract administration, and cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Safety, Service

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Mechanical Engineering, or Automotive Technology.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in transit operations, fleet maintenance, vehicle engineering, or related support function.
• Three years of experience overseeing rolling stock maintenance operations (diesel, gas, hybrid, and battery-electric).
• Experience with budget management, staff scheduling, and labor relations.
• Experience with regulatory compliance (FTA, OSHA, EPA) for transit maintenance.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days; no DUI/DWI in past 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Direct rolling stock maintenance operations for RTD’s bus fleet, including diesel, gas, hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles.
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs, repair campaigns, and resource coordination for parts and tools.
• Monitor team performance, assign shift work, and implement effective solutions to maintain fleet availability.
• Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and maintenance documentation systems.
• Administer budgets, analyze expenditures, plan staffing, and ensure fiscal accountability.
• Support labor contract administration and coordinate input for new vehicle procurements.
• Collect and analyze maintenance performance metrics to evaluate fleet reliability and cost efficiency.
