County of Santa Barbara is seeking a Lead Mechanic in Santa Barbara for the General Services Department. This role leads the work of mechanics in a fleet maintenance shop and assists with day-to-day operations, with potential time split between North and South County depending on department needs.

The position requires a minimum of six ASE certifications and extensive repair experience, plus a California driver’s license.

Competenze

• Minimum of 6 ASE certifications and 5 years of broad vehicle/equipment repair experience or 2 years at Auto Mechanic II / Equipment Mechanic II level with Santa Barbara County.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license; may require Class B license and related testing.
• Ability to lead, plan workload, train staff, and ensure safety and quality in a shop.

• Lead mechanics in a fleet maintenance shop and assist with day-to-day operations.
• Perform repairs, diagnostics, maintenance, and major repairs on various vehicles and equipment.
• Provide training, oversight, and quality control; manage workload and staffing recommendations.
• Prepare servicing schedules, enter fleet data, and generate reports from fleet software.
• Communicate with customers, prepare cost/time estimates, and maintain records.
