Job summary

San Bernardino County seeks Mechanics Assistants to support maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy truck, and construction equipment. You will inspect vehicles, check fluids, maintain records, and help repair brakes, radiators, batteries, and pumps.

The role requires tool ownership, background checks, and compliance with licensing requirements. A valid driver license is essential, with the potential to advance within Fleet Management or Sheriff’s Departments.

Qualifications

• 18 months of paid work experience repairing diesel or gasoline-powered automotive equipment.
• Experience must include removal, repair and replacement of radiators, hoses, belts, water pumps, batteries, cables, alternators, starters, brake systems, wheel bearings, seals and body parts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy truck and construction equipment.
• Inspect vehicles for defects and malfunctions.
• Check fluid levels and maintain maintenance records.
• Repair and replace brake systems, radiators, batteries, water pumps, cables and other equipment as necessary.
