Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a skilled automotive technician to maintain and repair its fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery. You will diagnose engines, powertrains, hydraulics, electrical and HVAC systems, and install accessories such as radios and laptops.

Welding and fabrication are also required, with occasional field work. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with vocational training and several years of related experience, plus relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED with one year vocational/technical training specific to heavy equipment and automotive repair and maintenance.
• Three years of progressively responsible related work experience.
• Combination of education, training and experience providing the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, repairs and diagnostics on Mesa County's fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment and specialized machinery.
• Install specialized accessory equipment (two-way radios, cell phones, laptops, modems) and related law enforcement gear.
• Conduct welding and fabrication as needed and use field service trucks for unsupervised field work.
• Log labor time and repair notes using electronic work orders.
• Perform federal DOT safety inspections and certify vehicle safety.
• May perform field work away from shop with a service truck and minimal supervision.
