Qualifications

  • Capable of carrying an 80 lb wire for 200 feet.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Fleet Deckhand

Company: American Commercial Barge Line

Location: Gulf

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Rotating weeks with 12-hour shifts (7 days on day shift, 7 days on night shift, 7 days off)

Join our team at American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) as a Fleet Deckhand with the unique advantage of going home every night. As a deckhand, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels. Must live within 50 miles of the fleet and possess a valid driver's license.

Your Role

As a Fleet Deckhand, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels. Your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the safe loading and unloading of cargo.
  • Handling rigging during barge tow building, locking, and docking activities.
  • Performing basic vessel maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and changing oil and filters.
  • Ensuring the safety of team members and cargo by inspecting and correcting conditions.
  • Contributing to a positive work environment through teamwork and communication.
Qualifications

You will need to have:

  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Be able to obtain a required Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Be able to complete a health questionnaire and pass a physical abilities test.
  • Be able to carry an 80lb wire for 200 feet without stopping or loss of balance.
  • Have physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous tasks.
  • Be able to work in inclement weather outdoor, heat and cold.
  • Have strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Have basic understanding of navigation and safety procedures.
  • Have a positive attitude and adaptability to a unique work schedule.
  • Adhere to all ACBL policies, United States Coast Guard (USCG), and environmental regulations.
