Job summary

A & Associates seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate excavators, wheel loaders, and related machinery in our recycling facility. You will contribute to efficient plant operations while upholding safety, environmental, and company policies.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of hands-on experience with heavy equipment in industrial settings, with reliability and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating excavators and wheel loaders.
  • Experience in recycling, construction, demolition, or similar industrial environments preferred.
  • Ability to perform equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to OSHA policies.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and wheel loaders to load, move, sort, and process recyclable materials.
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as needed (skid steers, forklifts, material handlers).
  • Load/unload materials from trucks and trailers; feed and sort materials for processing.
  • Perform daily pre/post-operation inspections and routine maintenance.

Heavy Equipment Operator

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy machinery to move, sort, load, and process recyclable materials throughout the recycling facility. This position is critical to maintaining efficient plant operations while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and company policies.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent, hands-on experience operating both excavators and wheel loaders is required.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment in a recycling, construction, demolition, aggregate, or similar industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate excavators and wheel loaders as primary equipment to load, move, sort, and process recyclable materials throughout the facility.
  • Operate additional heavy equipment, including skid steers, forklifts, and material handlers, as needed.
  • Load and unload recyclable materials from trucks, trailers, and storage areas.
  • Feed materials into processing equipment, conveyors, shredders, and balers.
  • Sort and separate recyclable materials to meet quality and production standards.
  • Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections, reporting any mechanical or safety concerns immediately.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance, including checking fluid levels, greasing equipment, and cleaning machinery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while ensuring proper traffic flow throughout the facility.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, truck drivers, and plant personnel to coordinate daily operations.
  • Assist with general plant operations and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of verifiable experience operating both excavators and wheel loaders is required.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe equipment operation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and a dependable attendance record.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a recycling, waste management, construction, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, or similar equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working around moving machinery, dust, noise, and vibration.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing.
Work Environment
  • Industrial recycling facility with exposure to heavy equipment, moving vehicles, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in scrap metal or recycling operations.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Forklift certification (preferred).
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
