Job summary

Bethyl Laboratories, Inc. in Louisiana is seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer to oversee the integrity of tanks, vessels, piping and exchangers.

You will develop programs, perform inspections, lead RCA investigations, and support modifications and capital projects in a collaborative, safety-focused environment. Strong documentation and communication are essential to success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • Knowledge of chemical/refining industry maintenance practices and processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure mechanical integrity of fixed equipment (tanks, vessels, piping, exchangers).
  • Develop, implement and manage mechanical integrity programs per codes and policies.
  • Conduct inspections, monitor performance, evaluate results.
  • Support preventive, corrective and turnaround maintenance activities.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis investigations and develop corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation for inspections, repairs and equipment history.
  • Provide engineering input for new installations, modifications and capital projects.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, inspection and project teams.
  • Act as reviewer in the management of change (MOC) process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Ensure the mechanical integrity, reliability, and safety of fixed equipment such as tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and heat exchangers.

Develop, implement, and manage mechanical integrity programs for fixed equipment, ensuring compliance with industry codes (API 510, 570, 653) and company policies.

Conduct inspections, monitor equipment performance and evaluate inspection results.

Support preventive, corrective, and turnaround maintenance activities.

Lead Root Cause Analysis Investigations of failures and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Maintain documentation for inspections, repairs, and equipment history.

Provide engineering expertise for new installations, modifications, and capital projects, including design reviews and material selection.

Work with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, inspection, and project teams, to optimize equipment performance and reliability.

Serve as a technical reviewer and subject matter expert during the management of change (MOC) process.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:
Required:

High School Diploma or GED

Four-year accredited Engineering Degree (Mechanical)

Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

Microsoft Office applications required

Knowledge of chemical/refining industry maintenance practices and processes

  • RCA methodology

ASME / ANSI / NBIC / API Recommended Practices

Preferred:

2 years of experience minimum in the engineering field

Qualifications:

Self-motivated and able to perform with minimal supervision.

Ability to work within a team environment – understands role and purpose in the overall team.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to access all plant areas.

Use of PPE is required in specific areas.

Regularly required to push, pull, bend, and perform long periods of standing and walking on cement foundations.

Climb stairs, straight ladders, and structures, etc.

Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.

Chemical manufacturing facility.

Professional office environment.
