Job summary

OakTree Staffing seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for a petrochemical plant in Port Neches, Texas. Responsibilities include ensuring reliability of fixed and rotating equipment, with design, change management, installation, and repair in line with safety and regulatory standards.

You will lead MOC for the area and assist with turnarounds, working with operations to maintain equipment in excellent condition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5–10 years mechanical maintenance and/or reliability experience in a petrochemical or refining facility preferred.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance procedures to ensure uptime and asset availability.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance using Condition Monitoring (Thermal Scanning, Vibration, etc.).
  • Experience leading Risk Based Maintenance assessments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance as it relates to mechanical integrity and related documentation.
  • Lead root cause analyses for stationary and rotating equipment failures.
  • Project manager for repairs, procurement, and installation of equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance and written instructions to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Maintain equipment with operations to ensure optimal performance and uptime.

Job description

This position is responsible for the overall mechanical reliability of a particular area of the plant including both fixed and rotating equipment. This position is to assure proper design, change management, installation and repair of fixed and rotating mechanical equipment according to regulatory and company standards. This position will be the focal point for all changes involving, but not limited to; pumps, compressors, turbines, gear boxes, cooling towers, exchangers, vessels, etc. The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations to understand needs and requirements and to provide a design and installation package. The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for Management of Change (MOC) for the assigned area, assist with turnaround scope development, and initiating change requests during turnarounds for impacts to mechanical equipment.

With Limited supervision and Much decision-making:

  • Responsible for Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance as it relates to mechanical integrity, engineering design, relief devices, process safety information, maintenance related procedures and all applicable document retention requirements.
  • Makes periodic inspections of all equipment within assigned units and assists in the maintenance, modification, or improvement of said equipment including proper documentation and regulatory change management.
  • Responsible for proper maintenance and engineering repair recommendations for all plant stationary and rotating equipment within the areas assigned.
  • Works with operations to maintain/operate equipment in excellent working condition.
  • Leads root cause activities for stationary and rotating equipment failures.
  • Responsible for engineering and procurement specifications for equipment within the units assigned.
  • Project manager for equipment repairs and new equipment procurement and installations.
  • Manages the engineering support and supervision as required for unit inspections and maintenance turnarounds.
  • Provides the production and process engineering departments with technical assistance and written instructions concerning the maintenance and proper operation of mechanical equipment within the areas assigned.
  • Keeps current with technical developments in his/her respective field through outside study, trade journals, technical societies, and seminars.
  • Ensure that the activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.
  • If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of company goals.
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company required training programs.

List any specific education and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering REQUIRED
  • 5-10 years mechanical maintenance and/or reliability experience (including internships) in a petrochemical or refining facility preferred
  • Experience in analysis and creation of preventative maintenance procedures and/or practices to ensure validity, efficiency and maximum unit uptime and asset availability strongly desired;
  • Experience with predictive maintenance programs using Condition Monitoring to include: Thermal Scanning, Temperature Trending and Analysis, Vibration Analysis, etc.
  • Prior experience leading Risk Based Maintenance assessments on critical equipment a plus

  • TWIC – Must have or be able to obtain TWIC card

Specific Skills and Knowledge

  • Must have a level of proficiency with SAP, Internet, Email and Microsoft Office programs
  • Knowledge of risk-based work prioritization methodology
  • Knowledge of economic evaluation methods (Life-Cycle Cost Analysis, NPV, Benefit/Cost)
  • Knowledge in Reliability Centered Maintenance or some form of Asset Management Plan Development is desired
  • Experience with reliability-focuses statistical analysis is desired
  • Basic understanding of engineering, purchasing, accounting and construction practices and maintenance workflows
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
