Job Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fixed Equipment at Chemours Corpus Christi Plant, Ingleside, TX. Reports to Manufacturing Technology Manager. Plant support role focusing on troubleshooting, maintenance, reliability, safety, and capital projects.

Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical expertise for troubleshooting, maintenance, and modification of operating equipment and facilities.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and training for operating and maintenance teams.
  • Support project work to ensure compliance with specifications, engineering standards, and quality assurance.
  • Lead PSM criticality assessment process, developing MIQA rationale, critical spare parts, SAP data, inspection plans, frequencies, and maintenance procedures.
  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and uptime data to recommend improvements for lowest life‑cycle cost.
  • Lead and participate in safety, reliability, and quality investigations.
  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks, sharing best practices, successes, and failures.
  • Perform FMEA to develop equipment maintenance plans, including predictive preventive maintenance (PPM) for operators and mechanics.
  • Support cost and capital projects: scope development, justification, and coordination of new or modified facilities installation.
  • Maintain personal technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations.
  • Provide shift and weekend coverage for start‑ups, tests, maintenance turnarounds, or other non‑routine needs.
  • Travel requirements are <15%.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a strongly related degree from an ABET accredited university.
  • 11+ years of related industrial or manufacturing experience in Fixed Equipment (intern or co‑op experience counts).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering fixed equipment principles in the chemical process industry.
  • Strong background in maintenance and reliability best practices, including work‑management processes and basic materials science.
  • Knowledge of non‑destructive testing, welding, fabrication, and working with third‑party fabricators.
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Piping Codes, API Codes, welding and fabrication processes, and repair procedures.
  • Experience with RCFA, FMEA, data analysis techniques, statistical interpretation skills, and evidence preservation for failure analysis.
  • Experience with cost and capital analysis and justification.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills with data‑based decision making.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate through all levels of an organization.
  • High initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and timely.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage short‑duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities.
  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 11 or more years of experience in related manufacturing industry or military equivalent experience.
  • Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) background.
  • Previous experience working with SAP.
