Job summary

Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking a Fixed Asset Accountant in the Office of the Controller to monitor, record, depreciate, and safeguard university fixed assets, analyze leases under GAAP and GASB, and ensure debt obligations are reconciled.

Using Workday and Excel, you’ll reconcile asset purchases, maintain depreciation schedules, develop asset policies, and support annual inventory and compliance efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
• 2 years professional accounting experience including journal entries.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment with exceptional organizational skills and managing multiple deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• 1 year professional experience with reconciliations.
• Experience using an integrated financial system similar to Workday (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Reconcile the cash account in the plant funds and perform monthly reconciliations.
• Record and reconcile fixed asset purchases using Workday and Excel.
• Determine GASB 87/96 lease classifications and calculate present values.
• Develop policies governing asset acquisition, depreciation, and plant fund compliance.
• Prepare reports and maintain depreciation schedules in Workday and Excel.
• Back up Fixed Asset Accountant; assist with bond-related reconciliations and entries.
