Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking an Accountant to manage fixed assets, depreciation, and related reporting. You will record asset costs, track existing assets, and ensure accuracy with company policies while collaborating cross-functionally.

You will handle asset transfers, disposals, CIP reconciliations, and monthly journal entries, contributing to annual audit schedules and management reports. A strong eye for detail and extensive Excel use are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Waste industry experience a plus.
• SAP experience a plus.
• 3+ years accounting experience required.
• Previous fixed asset experience strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience required.

Responsibilities

• Process asset transfers, disposals, and additions for all Rumpke locations.
• Administer Capital Expenditure and Fixed Asset Tracker databases.
• Maintain project files including copies of invoices.
• Reconcile CIP monthly to the general ledger.
• Prepare monthly journal entries as needed.
• Prepare and distribute monthly reports of Capital Expenditures, CIP, vehicle overhauls, and fixed assets roll forward.
• Attend and present at Capital Expenditure meetings with executives and area managers.
• Prepare annual external financial audit schedules.
• Maintain company and departmental policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes.

The Accountant is responsible for recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. This position is responsible for the preparation and documentation of fixed asset reports in a manner that ensures accuracy and compliance with company accounting policies. The Accountant must be dedicated and committed to accuracy, have strong attention to detail, and be able to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities of Position

• Process asset transfers, disposals, and additions for all Rumpke locations
• Administer the Capital Expenditure and Fixed Asset Tracker databases
• Maintain files for each project including copies of all invoices
• Reconcile Construction in Process (CIP) monthly to the general ledger
• Prepare monthly journal entries as needed
• Prepare and distribute monthly reports of Capital Expenditures, CIP, vehicle overhauls, and a roll forward of all fixed assets
• Attend and present information at Capital Expenditure meetings with executives and area managers
• Prepare annual external financial audit schedules
• Maintain company and departmental operating standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
• Identify opportunities for improvement in processes and implement changes as required
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management
• Perform job duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position will not manage employees.

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position
