Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling is seeking an Accountant to manage fixed asset accounting, depreciation, CIP reconciliation, and related reporting for multiple locations.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of accounting experience, a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, and strong attention to detail with cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Process asset transfers, disposals, and additions for all locations.
• Administer Capital Expenditure and Fixed Asset Tracker databases.
• Maintain project files with invoices and CIP details.
• Reconcile CIP monthly to the general ledger.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and fixed asset reports.
• Present information at Capital Expenditure meetings.
• Support annual external audit schedules and policy compliance.
• Identify process improvements and implement changes.

The Accountant is responsible for recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. This position is responsible for the preparation and documentation of fixed asset reports in a manner that ensures accuracy and compliance with company accounting policies. The Accountant must be dedicated and committed to accuracy, have strong attention to detail, and be able to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities of Position:

• Process asset transfers, disposals, and additions for all Rumpke locations
• Administer the Capital Expenditure and Fixed Asset Tracker databases
• Maintain files for each project including copies of all invoices
• Reconcile Construction in Process (CIP) monthly to the general ledger
• Prepare monthly journal entries as needed
• Prepare and distribute monthly reports of Capital Expenditures, CIP, vehicle overhauls, and a roll forward of all fixed assets
• Attend and present information at Capital Expenditure meetings with executives and area managers
• Prepare annual external financial audit schedules
• Maintain company and departmental operating standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
• Identify opportunities for improvement in processes and implement changes as required
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management
• Perform job duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Ability to analyze and interpret financial information

• Advanced Microsoft proficiency, including Excel Pivot Tables and V-Lookups
• Ability to prioritize work effectively to manage multiple projects and tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to present and maintain both high-level and detailed fixed asset data to the executive team

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations
• 3+ years of accounting experience required
• Previous fixed asset experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance or equivalent experience required

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
• Rarely stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Continuously sitting; Rarely standing/walking
