Job summary

The Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA is seeking a Fitness Director to lead health and wellness programs, inspire members to live healthier lives, and support the Y's mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

This role directs health and wellness promotion, retention, and program activities, including Active Older Adults programs, and requires strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation or equivalent, or a minimum of two years of health/fitness experience.
• Possess certifications in group exercise and personal training, or ability to obtain within first 3 months of employment.
• Two or more years of supervisory and staff recruitment experience in health and wellness preferred.
• Ability to support training of fitness staff, including group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and wellness coaches.
• Experience in planning and implementing activities with senior adults preferred.
• Obtain and remain compliant with YMCA certifications and standards.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
• Must be organized and detail-oriented.
• Must possess skills to operate standard office and computer equipment, data management, organizational and budgeting skills.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and related trainings required.

Responsibilities

• Lead health and wellness promotion, retention, and program activities, including Active Older Adults programs.
• Direct health and wellness promotion and program activities to inspire members to live healthier lives.
• Recruit, train, and supervise fitness staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality programs.
• Develop positive relationships with members from diverse backgrounds and communities.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA certifications and standards across health and wellness programs.
