Job Title - Fitness Trainer
Job Summary
The Fitness Trainer will be responsible for running the Planet Fitness group fitness program (PE@PF). This includes leading small-group training classes and assisting new members in achieving their fitness goals by designing simple workout programs and instructing proper equipment use. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Club Manager at the assigned location.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Duties
- Execute the Planet Fitness PE@PF program according to schedule and class descriptions, teaching 11-14 small-group classes of up to ten people daily.
- Teach correct exercise form and technique, including progressions and regressions, through demonstration and cueing.
- Meet with members individually and in small groups to design personalized exercise programs based on their experience, medical background, and goals.
- Consult with members on fitness goals and instruct them on equipment use.
- Submit training logs and programs for supervisor review.
- Engage members via calls and other communication methods to schedule and conduct New Member Orientations and other programs.
- Design and update structured exercise programs for individual and group training, including bi-weekly class exercises.
- Track attendance and success metrics in DataTrak, striving for continuous improvement.
- Support club operations: inspect equipment, monitor workout areas, respond to emergencies, and stock supplies.
- Assist with front desk activities such as answering phones, member check-in, and introducing new members.
- Respond to member questions and concerns professionally, escalating as needed.
- Maintain member confidentiality per HIPAA and related laws.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Engage in continuous movement, including bending, walking, standing, and stationary periods.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Wear a backpack vacuum weighing up to 15 lbs.
- Handle toxic cleaning chemicals safely.
- Commute in all weather conditions.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in personal or group training preferred; bachelor’s in exercise science advantageous.
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Current CPR certification (employer-paid).
- Current NCCA-accredited training certification (e.g., ACE, NCSF, NASM).
- Passion for fitness and health, with an upbeat attitude.
- Punctual, reliable, with excellent customer service skills.
- Strong listening, empathy, problem-solving, and diplomacy skills.
- Experience designing small group programs with various exercises and modalities.
- Proficiency in basic software applications, including Google Suite and DataTrak.
Salary and Benefits
- Wage of $14-15/hour, with potential advancement; $2 shift premium for 10pm-7am shifts.
