Position Details

Target Hourly/Salary Rate: $17.85

Appointment Full-time Equivalency: 1.0

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Contingent Upon Funding: Not Applicable

Standard Work Schedule: Standard (M-F, 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Provides Fiscal Support to Department Head, faculty and staff for the department of Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources. Verifies that amounts, codes and indexes are correct, Sorts documents and posts transactions to corresponding accounts; balances and reconciles department records; makes necessary corrections if needed; Maintains cash receipts, cash deposits, property control records, accounts payable or accounts receivable; identifies accounts affected and debit and credit entries to ensure budgets are not over budget; Submits documentation for personnel travel reimbursements; Contacts various department personnel to resolve discrepancies or problems; Compiles numerical and statistical for reports; runs a variety of reports from computer records; May perform various clerical duties if needed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: High School diploma + 3 years of relevant experience or an Associate's Degree + 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively in person or via email. Effective at time management, working independently, and completion of time sensitive tasks. Familiarity with NMSU accounting systems and mastery of spreadsheets for complex data organization and tracking departmental budgets. The ability to interpret complex NMSU financial rules, procurement codes, and travel policies and relay relevant information to faculty, extension specialists, and external stakeholders to ensure that all are compliant with NMSU policy.

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: No or very limited physical effort required.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
