Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Athens, GA is seeking a 1st Shift Production Manager to lead manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement across the plant. You will evaluate procedures, equipment needs and schedules to ensure safe, efficient production of all products.

You will mentor staff, oversee training, timekeeping and workload planning while supporting Lean, 6 Sigma and CQMS/ISO initiatives and maintaining Caterpillar’s quality standards.

Qualifications

• Process improvement: focus on continuous improvement of processes, products and services.
• Manufacturing safety: identify hazards and meet safety requirements for workers and environment.
• Production training: deliver training on safe and efficient operation of production machinery.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and improve shop floor safety and eliminate unsafe operations.
• Determine processing needs to meet schedules and production requirements.
• Coordinate workload, priorities and sequence with production management daily.
• Assess overtime needs and resource constraints, escalate as needed.
• Suggest changes to equipment and methods to increase efficiency and reduce non-value-added activities.
• Ensure product quality adheres to Caterpillar quality policy and cost targets.
• Manage parts/materials ordering and timely distribution.
• Support corporate initiatives like 5S, Lean, 6 Sigma, CQMS/ISO certification.
• Train and develop staff, manage timekeeping, staffing levels and work assignments.
